Too often, we focus on optimizing existing reports or models, rather than questioning whether those outputs are even necessary. Are we providing real-time insights when stakeholders need them, or just faster versions of yesterday’s reports? Are we designing data architectures around user workflows, or around technical convenience?

The most transformative analytics projects I’ve seen would seek to go beyond using new technology; they would redefine the problem. They asked “what if” questions that seemed impossible until someone, like Beulah, built a working prototype. For example, when business users struggled with data literacy, one team I worked with created interactive storyboards instead of static dashboards, making insights accessible to everyone, not just analysts.

The New principle invites us to be inventors, not just implementers. It’s about daring first to imagine, and then to build, solutions that eliminate friction entirely.

TRUE: Staying Authentic to Real Human Needs

Every one of Beulah’s inventions addressed a genuine, often unspoken, need. Her compact umbrellas fit into handbags because she understood how women navigated their days. Her typewriter innovations made office work more efficient because she had seen the bottlenecks firsthand.

I’ve seen machine learning models that dazzled data scientists but left business users confused. I’ve seen dashboards that delivered instant access to irrelevant information. The best analytics solutions are those that solve problems users actually feel; even if they can’t articulate them.

This means spending time with stakeholders, observing their workflows, listening to their stories, and identifying pain points that have become invisible through familiarity. It means designing tools that align with how people actually think and work, not how we wish they would.

The True principle reminds us that the ultimate goal of analytics is not just insight, but impact. Like Beulah, we must pay attention to the real lives behind the data, ensuring our solutions make a tangible difference.

Bringing It All Together: The Popcorn Legacy

Beulah Louise Henry’s ideas came like popcorn: sudden, rapid, unpredictable, unstoppable. She filled notebooks with sketches and calculations, always chasing the next solution to a problem which others had accepted as unsolvable. What if your appliances could haggle over the electricity bill so you don’t have to? Think of a following scenario: your EV needs a charge immediately, but the dishwasher you just loaded can easily run later tonight. Instead of both drawing heavy power at the same time and straining the system, the EV essentially tips the dishwasher a digital energy token to hold off for a few hours. It all happens in milliseconds, completely behind the scenes, without a central hub directing traffic and without any human intervention.

This is not an imaginary  scenario. It is the core premise of a new energy management framework that combines Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) with a blockchain-enforced token economy to bring truly autonomous, fair, and privacy-preserving energy distribution to the smart home.

The Problem with the Existing Smart Home Solution

In today’s world, home energy systems are generally managed by a central controller. The central controller can be remote devices co-ordinating between different appliances through individual instructions. This kind of architecture has an inherent flaw – single point of failure e.g. with the absence of a remote, you may not be able to turn on a dishwasher remotely. Imagine central controller going offline during a heatwave or grid emergency. This can have catastrophic effect as the entire system will fail in the absence of a controller.

Also a centralised controller usually processes requests from dozens of appliances sequentially, introducing decision latency of 200–500 milliseconds per cycle. In a world where grid-frequency events demand sub-second responses, this is simply too slow. As appliances passively wait for commands, the system misses the flexible value they inherently hold e.g. an EV that could defer charging for thirty minutes or a water heater coasting on thermal mass has no mechanism to express that flexibility.

Every Appliance Becomes an Agent

Instead of a central controller giving instructions to other devices , every device acts as its own independent agent, constantly reading the room—checking real-time electricity prices, grid frequency, and what else is running in the house. Based on that data, the appliance calculates how badly it needs power using a straightforward formula:

A medical ventilator, with a safety priority of 10, always scores highest — it receives energy unconditionally. An EV with a depleted battery scores high on urgency. A dishwasher mid-cycle scores low on time sensitivity. These scores drive an encrypted auction, run every sixty seconds, in which appliances bid for energy tokens using zero-knowledge proofs — mathematical techniques that allow an appliance to prove its bid is valid without revealing the amount, preserving the occupant’s privacy completely.

This paradigm — known as Centralised Training, Decentralised Execution (CTDE) — means agents are trained on rich global data but execute their policies independently at runtime. No server, no cloud dependency, no single point of failure.

What the Published Evidence Shows

A growing body of peer-reviewed research supports the performance case for MARL-based energy management. A 2025 study spanning more than 1,200 buildings across three metropolitan areas found that MARL coordination reduced peak demand loads by approximately 23% and cut energy consumption costs by nearly 19% compared to traditional centralised control [C1]. On the standardised CityLearn benchmark — the field’s primary evaluation platform — the attention-based AAC-MADRL algorithm achieved energy cost reductions of up to 18% and improved self-sufficiency by up to 10.5% during periods of limited solar generation, while deploying 40% faster than decentralised deep RL alternatives [C2].

Adversarial robustness is equally critical for real-world deployment. A 2022 study found that the Robust Adversarial MARL framework (RAMARL-DR) recovered approximately 39% of grid-ramping performance degraded by cyber-attacks [C3] — a result directly relevant here. The Proof-of-Necessity consensus tolerates up to 33% Byzantine (malicious) nodes by slashing the staked tokens of any appliance found misrepresenting its priority, achieving equivalent resilience through economic incentive rather than trusted hardware.

Blockchain: Not Hype — Hard Mathematics

The blockchain layer does something that very few software policy can.  It can make budget violation mathematically impossible, not just unlikely. Every day, the household receives exactly B energy credit tokens from the utility company, where each token corresponds to a watt-hour . Appliances spend tokens to activate. Since the ledger enforces the constraint Σ(active allocations) ≤ B through distributed consensus, there is no race condition, no double-spending, and no way for a software bug to allow simultaneous overconsumption.

Tokens have a time decay property so that if a household or agent tries to hoard them, the value decays exponentially, which in turn ensures energy credits circulate like actual energy rather than being stockpiled by greedy agents. But what is more important is that this creates a cryptographic audit trail. Households participating in demand-response programmes can prove to utilities that they did indeed curtail demand by the promised amount. Thus unlocking incentive payments that soft-enforcement systems cannot access.

What This Means for Smart Homes

The broader significance reaches beyond the home. The same architecture can be scaled for neighbourhood microgrids. Households with rooftop solar can sell surplus tokens to neighbours, enabling peer-to-peer energy trading without an intermediary. As building electrification accelerates in terms of EVs, heat pumps, grid-connected batteries, etc.,  the number of negotiating agents grows, but so does the available flexibility. A 2020 study estimated that demand response programmes hold the potential to cut electricity peaks by around 20% in the building sector alone.

This opens new avenues of opportunity for different kinds of stakeholders. For appliance manufacturers, this can mean a new agent-enabled appliance that ships with a reinforcement learning policy, a cryptographic wallet, and a smart-contract execution environment built into its firmware.

When it comes to  grid operators, it is a population of millions of autonomous demand-response participants who can react in under 100 milliseconds without a single manual override.

Last but not least, for the residents, it’s a home that optimises itself, proves its fairness, and never shares its data.

The self-negotiating home is not a distant vision. The mathematics are settled, the benchmarks are encouraging, and the architecture is ready for pilot deployment. The only remaining question is how quickly the industry is prepared to stop thinking of appliances as passive loads — and start treating them as agents.

As we are into 2026, this moment offers more than a calendar transition—it offers clarity. The past year tested assumptions, accelerated adoption, and forced recalibration across technology, business, and society.

For me personally, 2025 was a milestone year. After reflecting on two decades in the industry, I published my second book, Jagjeevan: Living Larger Than Life, in both Hindi and English, while continuing to engage readers through Exploring the Metaverse. I contributed over 30 articles and papers across IoT solutions, XR AI → GenAi → Agentic AI, and motivation, participated in 10+ global forums and standards discussions, and was fortunate to see two patents granted along the way.

But beyond personal milestones,

2025 will be remembered as the year AI stopped being an experiment and became an assumption. It was the year the industry tested AI-first thinking at scale—and learned where it breaks.

Below are my five key observations from 2025, and how I see them evolving in 2026.

1. The Age of Abundant AI Content—and the Return of Human Value

2025 flooded the world with AI-generated content: blogs, ads, music, videos, images, 3D assets, even books. Content became cheap, fast, and everywhere—and paradoxically, less valuable.

Social media was already saturated with influence-driven narratives; AI influencers only amplified the trust deficit. We are reaching to a point where volume erasing the meaning.

I spoke about this in my recent session, “The Heart and Mind of Authorship: What Makes Writing Human in an AI Era”, where I shared how I used AI while writing Jagjeevan. AI helped with grammar, flow, structure, and language, but never with intent. I repeatedly reminded my “intelligent but obedient assistant”:

Don’t tell me what to write. Help me say what I already mean. 

That distinction matters.

2026 Outlook

The soul of content will matter more than its scale.

2. From GenAI to Agentic AI: Automation Learns to Act

2025 was the breakout year for Agentic AI.

We moved beyond content generation and search into reasoning, decision-making, and action. AI agents started performing real tasks—handling calls, qualifying leads, scheduling meetings, following up, even troubleshooting. Ref : AI Receptionist.

Receptionists, sales assistants, HR coordinators, trip planners, healthcare, education and more have an agent equivalent.

This isn’t just rebranding. This is a paradigm shift.

2026 Outlook

Agents will stay—but only those designed with humanity in mind will succeed.

3. AI-First Modernization (Not AI-Only)

2025 taught us a hard lesson: AI-first does not mean AI-only.

AI-First Software Delivery (AIFSD) rose rapidly—tools that could design, code, test, deploy, and monitor systems end-to-end. We built demos before products existed. Speed was astonishing.

But maintenance told a different story.

Fixing AI-generated systems—especially without human context—was often harder than building from scratch. Specs mattered more than ever. When intent was unclear, AI amplified the confusion.

2026 Outlook

AI is a multiplier—but only when humans set direction.

4. Standardization Returns to Emerging Tech

2025 reignited momentum in XR, spatial computing, digital twins, robotics and immersive intelligence. Platforms like Android XR and expanding Meta ecosystems signal maturity—not fragmentation.

What’s next is convergence.

2026 Outlook

Innovation scales only when foundations stabilize.

5. The Rediscovery of Human Work

Remote vs. office debates faded in 2025. What remained was more fundamental: the value of work itself.

AI raised productivity—but also surfaced a deeper truth: intelligence without humanity has no meaning. The question is no longer “Will AI replace us?” but “Where must humans remain essential?

2026 Outlook

This aligns deeply with the vision I outlined in Exploring the Metaverse—a future where immersive AI enhances human potential rather than erasing it.

Conclusion: Humanity Evolves, Not Disappears

2025 shattered illusions. It showed us what AI can do—and where it must stop. It reminded us that technology without values scales risk, not progress.

As we step into 2026, the opportunity is clear: Build AI that serves humans, not replaces them. Design systems that amplify meaning, not noise.

The future isn’t artificial. It’s augmented—with intention.

Let’s look at four big lessons (the “Four S’s”) that the Mercury’s story offers us.

Streamlining: The Power of Elegant Simplicity

The Mercury is a lesson in cutting the fat. Dreyfuss didn’t simply graft a new, glamorous body onto an old train; he remade every inch of it, every detail, in the pursuit of speed. The train appeared to be in motion, even when it stood stationary. There was no wasted space; no clutter.

In data visualization, for example, the tendency is to include all information; even every detail that can be represented graphically. Let’s face it: in the effort to unlock insights through analytics tools, it is all too common for us to be presented with a set of graphs that looks like those of a jumbo jet’s control panel and for our eyes to glaze over in the process. Consider the last chart you looked at that made you go, “Aha!” Chances are, it was clean, focused, and direct. It didn’t waste your time.

Let’s be practical here. Suppose you are developing a sales dashboard for a sales team that simply wants to know whether they’re winning or losing for the quarter. Would you embed 15 different types of graphs into it, ranging from conversion metrics to customer churn and web traffic to social media interactions? Or would you highlight only those two or three key numbers that actually drive their decisions? Which approach is more likely to get used? Which one will people remember when they’re walking out of the meeting? Most of us are looking for clarity rather than complexity.

Streamlining involves honoring the time and mental energy of your audience, not overwhelming them with a bloated visualization. If you’ve ever watched a team leader sigh with relief when you present a simple, crystal-clear chart, you already know the power of this principle. The Mercury’s curves were pretty, but they also made the train faster and more efficient. In the same way, a streamlined visualization helps ideas travel farther, faster.

Storytelling: Turning Data into Narrative

Climb aboard the Mercury in its heyday, and it was more like entering a story than merely boarding a train. Let’s say you’re presenting quarterly results to your team. You could bombard them with graphs, or you could walk them through a simple sequence: “Here’s where we started the year. Here’s what changed (maybe a new marketing campaign, a competitor entering the market, a product launch). Here’s the result.” Now you’ve got a story, not just a report. Stories stick. People walk out of the room repeating them to others. That’s what the Mercury did in its day, and it’s what great data visualization does now.

Eventually, the train’s routes became reduced, and its sleek exterior became history.

People familiar with the world of data analysis for more than a few years will recognize the changes I speak of. Remember the days of reports printed and bound in books and distributed by hand? Or when business intelligence meant emailing around Excel files with cryptic file names? The shift to web-based dashboards, real-time updates, and mobile access has changed not just how we visualize data, but who can do it and when.

We’re living through another shift right now. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, self-service analytics: all these things are opening doors that would not have been open a decade ago. The skill set that you needed to have in 2016 may not be as valuable as the skill set that you have or need to develop today. However, regardless of the tools that you use, the principles remain the same: understand who you’re speaking to, be responsive to them, and don’t get fixed on a particular process.

I frequently ask colleagues, “What’s the one tool you couldn’t live without five years ago but barely touch now?” Change is relentless. The Mercury’s story stands as a warning: don’t let yesterday’s brilliance turn into tomorrow’s relic. Stay open and willing to learn; you’ll be finding new ways to make data matter.

Going by the Accounting Principles, an Organization is to be Construed, Conceptualized and Carried-on for Perpetual Existence – in colloquial terms, Ever Lasting & Never Ending for Generations to come. But in reality, there are Business Exits – for Strategic, Tactical or sometimes Conditions induced reasons.

When Exits are planned and structured, as in the case of Strategic and Tactical Decisions, its very controlled and the impact of which is carefully taken into consideration prior to implementation. In the 3rd case, Business Conditions induced Exits are usually uncontrolled and therefore are undesirable, resulting in People Issues and Emotional Conflicts, Business issues apart.

As the Famous adage goes “Today, You need to run to remain in the same place. And to Succeed, You need to run faster than the fastest.” This is same for Businesses. To remain where they are, they have to run atleast to match the speed of Industry Growth. And if they are to Grow, they have to run faster than their Competitors – as Growth comes only by acquiring Market and Business Share.

One of the essential aspects of Growth, is to Change and Change Constantly, Consistently, Continuously. As much Change and Growth are inseparable, they are essentially People Dependent and hence, Leadership Oriented. Apex Level Changes – are supposed to be Strategic leading to Compounded results, Operational Level Changes are Tactical leading to Incremental results and Execution Level Changes are for Sustainable results.

It’s all about 3Cs – Conviction, Commitment & Consistency.

Growth comes essentially because of the ability of the Organization to easily Adapt to the Changes effected by SPELT (Social, Political, Economic, Legal and Technological) factors. Other way to manage Change is to create one. Such strategies also define Market Leaders, Followers and Laggards. There are both merits & demerits in being either one.

Lag Vs Lead Indicators

Businesses thrive on Revenues, Profits and Cash Flows. Prudent Leadership will agree these are results based on past and facts. Certainly they are required for Business continuity and therefore entrusted with Executional Level. Growing Organizations usually focus on influencing SPELT environment to their advantage. Focus then shifts to Market Share, Business Share, New Businesses/ New Customers/ New Markets and New Products.

Failures as stepping stones to success

Growth oriented Leadership encourage Changes, despite knowing the risk of Failures. Its important to accept that there is always a 50% probability to succeed if we try, which otherwise is zero. Successful Organizations actually celebrate failures – wherein it incentivizes to discuss, understand and analyze so as to not repeat them. This is essentially helpful when its 100% transparent and organization wide. Learning from Failures then becomes a part of the Business Process, well documented and widely accessible.

Actions and Inactions:

Actions can be Predictive, Proactive, Reactive and Responsive. Each of these have their own consequences – while being Predictive and Proactive may be choices that induce Change and thus Growth, Reactive and Responsive are essential to sustain businesses. If we don’t Act and failure to act appropriately at an appropriate time may cause irreparable consequences. Ofcourse, to wait and watch is also an action but with limitations, sometimes when overused becoming a liability.

Fundamentals

Many effective Leaders who are Change Makers believe in questioning the Fundamentals. This is certainly needed in a dynamic, fast changing Business Environment. For Business Sustainability, even to change the Fundamentals, there is a need to understand and believe the prevailing fundamentals to know what to change and what not to change. Change for the sake of Change has to be avoided and therefore Change & its impact should be measurable. Reliability then is a result of Repeatability which relies on Processes & People Capability.

Learning & Growing

Growth comes out of the ability of the Organization to Learn and Lead, which means People who are part of the Change and Growth process should be willing to Learn and Grow and thus Grow the Organization. As much as People and Processes are inseparable, Organization and People are.

Written for two of my all time Favourites, and with very due respects to other fellow Champions. As in Business Excellence, Sporting Excellence is achieved by methodical, consistent processes which are colloquially known as Practice.

It’s more often Repeatability which leads to Reliability, very much as in the case of Businesses. Errors and Variances, end up in Results. Failures are then used by Champions for RCAs (Root Cause Analysis) and CAPAs (Corrective & Preventive Actions). This ensures Failure is not an End and Success is Never Final, for Sustained Successes, much similar to Business requirements.

They may not be typical Naturals….but they have matured enough to reinvent themselves…reminding the rest in the field and to whom it matters, its still better to have them very much in the scheme of things…One a Cricketer and the other a Tennis Player.

It’s more than a liking and loving…it’s not a mere Fan Moment, which i resist to confine myself to….

The King Kohli and The Super Consistent Djoko….both of whom still stand shoulder to shoulder with Young Guns and Raw Talents…Yet again, i will hold myself from calling them Geniuses…

As I submit this piece to their 4Ds – Drive, Determination, Discipline and of course Dedication, Hard Work apart. Money did not change them. Fame did not change them. And more importantly Age did not defy them what they deserve.

Qualities which i liberally subscribe whenever i get an opportunity to address Budding Professionals and Entrepreneurs. For me these two are Sporting Professionals, much beyond being good players – in addition to being icons, who have brought in new dimensions the way each of their sport is played.

Picture this: a scrappy team in San Francisco, founders of a startup called Odeo, suddenly find their business model flattened by Apple’s iTunes. Most people would’ve called it a day. But not these folks. They tossed out their old idea and doubled down on something wild: an app for sharing what you’re doing in just 140 characters. That gamble gave us Twitter, and changed how the world connects.

Across the city, another crew had their own mess. Their app, Burbn, did everything from check-ins, to games, to social stuff, to photos. But users only cared about posting pictures with cool filters. So, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger made a tough call. They stripped Burbn down to just photo sharing and turned it into something called “Instagram.” The result? A cultural juggernaut that changed how we capture the world.

While it is certain that a majority of people have never heard of Odeo or Burbn, Twitter (now “X”) and Instagram have become household terms. Strategic reinvention put them both on the map, and they’re here to stay. At least for now.

So, what does any of this have to do with lean data governance? Actually, more than you might think. Twitter and Instagram didn’t win at reinventing themselves strategically by piling on features or more rules. They won because they knew when to focus, when to simplify, and when to let go of anything that didn’t matter. That’s the heart of lean data governance: cut the clutter, stay focused, and build systems that serve the business. Not the other way around.

The Trap of Traditional Governance

Let’s be real. Most organizations start with good intentions for data governance. They want to keep data safe, follow the rules, and use data responsibly. But here’s the problem: old-school data governance frameworks were built for a slower world. When things speed up, those same frameworks turn into roadblocks.

All those committees, sign-offs, and endless paperwork? They add friction, not value. Teams get tangled up in bureaucracy instead of actually doing something meaningful with data. It’s like trying to sprint with weights around your ankles. Sure, you can move forward, but doing it that way is so much harder than it should be.

Lean data governance takes a page from the Twitter and Instagram playbook. Instead of tweaking the old system, it asks the question: “What if we started fresh?” Rather than being satisfied with only rebranding, it goes a step further and encompasses real transformation; that is, putting users first, making bold decisions, and knowing when to move on. That’s what sets effective data governance apart from the usual red tape.

There are five cornerstones upon which this “strategic reinvention” mindset is built: focus, strategic constraints, user-centric design, timing and execution, and building on strengths. Let’s break them down one at a time.

Data governance has the same problem. Too many organizations try to cover every possible scenario, and end up with a mess of policies that slow everyone down. Lean data governance borrows that Instagram mindset: find what truly matters and get rid of the rest.

Strategic Constraints: The Twitter Lesson

Twitter’s 140-character limit (later 280) may seem like a tech quirk, but it was a deliberate choice. That boundary forced people to get creative and gave Twitter its unique style.

In data governance, strategic constraints work the same way. Instead of endless approvals and red tape, lean governance gives teams clear rules (such as data quality standards, who can access what, retention timelines, and so forth), then lets them get to work. These boundaries keep things on track without smothering innovation.

The goal isn’t just to make things run smoother. It’s about giving people room to innovate, but within clear boundaries.

User-Centric Design: Building for People, Not Just Policy
Look at Twitter and Instagram. They show how user-focused design can drive big changes. Twitter didn’t invent hashtags in a boardroom. Users started tagging their tweets, and the company just paid attention and made it official. Over on Instagram, filters went beyond simply making photos look nice. They turned regular folks into artists, making everyone feel like their photos were worth sharing.

One thing stands out: neither Twitter nor Instagram tossed out what already worked. Twitter’s real-time messaging became microblogging. Instagram’s photo filters built the backbone for social sharing. Instead of rebuilding from the ground up, they adapted what they already had.

That’s exactly how organizations should approach data governance. Don’t throw away the systems that deliver value. Figure out what’s working, cut the red tape, and evolve. Period. No need for a dramatic overhaul; just build on what you know works.

GhostPairing is not a flaw in WhatsApp encryption. It is an abuse of WhatsApp’s legitimate “Linked Devices” feature, combined with psychological manipulation.

The attacker convinces a victim to unknowingly authorize an external device, creating a silent “ghost” session that mirrors chats in real time.

This article is a result of continuous interactions with Leaders, their Organizations and others across 4 decades – Both Family Managed and Corporates, real & felt. As a Professional groomed to be an Intrapreneur since early days, up bringing has been a kind of Classical in the sense of mixing the Flavours of both Corporate and Family Business Styles & Culture, thanks to Business Owners and Superiors.

A firm believer in Observational Learning, having had much larger Customers and Suppliers, Learning has been tremendous over the Years – both Good & Otherwise. Many a times I have had the opportunity to look at both what should be and what should not be. Sustaining the success of Organizations across dynamic business scenarios, I firmly attribute to the resilience of the Top Management – their agility and ability to think differently and most importantly being appropriately Decisive.

Professionally or Owner Managed

Bitten by the Entrepreneurial bug, I decided to Superannuate on time. This decision was kind of influenced by my observations about lack of appreciable difference between a Professionally & Owner Managed Organization. It is also a decision based on What one should not do – Extensions. Many times I hear people remarking that “Owners cannot retire” as much as “Professionals don’t want to retire”. Though this appears to be dependent on Personal Priorities and Pre-occupations, I have observed that this is something to do with Self-confidence, ability to live beyond the Organization, the Trust they have on their second and third line irrespective of a Fellow Professional or a Family Member, and most importantly their own vulnerabilities post dis-engagement.

The Process

There is a need for me to make some submissions here – I have had the opportunity to get trained the Swiss Way, adopt the Japanese Way and live a Consumer life American Way. This being said, I believe in looking at every aspect of Managing or Mismanaging a Business as a Process. And Transition planning is one such critical Process.

Organization Design

Looking at Transition Planning as a Process, it starts with the very organizational design.
Trajectory of evolution of an Organization, though cannot be predicted accurately, need to be atleast visualized. Else may give way to either under and over staffed scenarios. I have personally preferred understaffed scenarios as a strategy until the Organization really Grows – for two reasons. Firstly, it prepares Employees for additional responsibilities and secondly, it cushions the Organization against adverse impacts. Given the different possibilities, an Organization Design should accommodate for both Growth and Stable phase. Opportunity to Grow Vertically in an Organization will depend on the Employee willing to take additional responsibilities.

Time Lapse & Promotions

Structured and Stream Lined promoting of Employees is certainly a way of Transition Planning. There are a few precautions though, which are pertinent – Promotion should be only for additional, well differentiable Role & Responsibilities. This should certainly be not based on time lapse, age & experience. It should also be reckoned that, as Employees Grow higher up in Hierarchy, Opportunities will become rarer. Promotion should also be not based on either output increase or sales revenue increase. This simply means, Promotion for the sake of Promotion and based on Year on Year increase in sales should be avoided.

Letting Go

Sometime earlier I have written an exclusive article on Letting Go as a Business strategy drawing parallel to Successful Batting in Cricket. Shall confine this time Letting Go from the perspective of Organizational Transition. Real Transitional Growth happens within an Organization and for the People in it, only when the incumbents are willing to Delegate and let go of their Authority and Control. This is true both for Grooming Next Gen Employees and Family Members. Leaders often ignore the fact that Controlling & Monitoring are very very different. Likewise, at some stage Organization may exhaust options to promote even Deserving Employees. This is the time when we should let go of such Good Employees – both for Organization & Employee sake. This is simply to avoid complicating the Organization structure. There are many successful companies/ organizations wherein the original promoters have relinquished their Ownership for the larger good of the Organization.

Succession Planning

Having been a witness to many dilemmas, both within and outside Organizations, succession planning is invariably biased. A lot of emphasis is given to Loyalty than that of Efficacy, however rigid and objective the evaluation process may be. Despite this, its important succession planning is built into the Organizational Planning Process. A good plan should include creating opportunities (vacancies) at regular intervals and letting go people, authority and control at regular intervals. A Leader is only good as much as he is willing to relinquish his own Role & Responsibilities. It is also a fact that only such Leaders can ensure Leadership pipeline. This is true both for Owners & Professionals, and should be seen only from that of Organizational Perspective and never from that of a Family or Loyalty.

Goals, Objectives & Measurements

Any Transition and Succession planning will not be complete without insistence of Metrics.
Mutual transparency about Expectations, Goals & Objectives is essential. Periodic review and reassessments will then determine the readiness of both the individual and the organization. Both for Professional and Family such measurements should be Professional and in its Truest Sense for the Organization to be successfully sustainable.

Is ASI – Artificial Super Intelligence here? Are T-1000 Terminator machines appearing?

Remember the Terminator movies, where Arnold plays the killer/savior Cyborg from the future? The line ‘Hasta la vista baby’ or See You Later? Several films have portrayed robots and cyborgs as good and evil machines. But are they the future of ASI?

Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) is a conceptual construct of the future stage of AI. ASI will feature systems that supersede areas or domains of human cognitive capabilities. Some of the domains are cognitive skills, creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, terms the era of ASI “The Intelligence Age.” This is when computers manage to improve on many complex tasks that only humans can do. He says that ‘deep learning has really worked. Algorithms are developed that truly learn any distribution of data, and the underlying rule to compute and give better results.

Mo Gawdat, in his book, cautions us and argues that ASI will surpass human abilities, think, see into the future, predict outcomes, and even use sensors to see around physical and virtual corners. ASI bots will certainly help humans to solve problems, provide healthcare, and improve the quality of life.

Popular movies and books however paint a dystopian and malevolent view of ASI. This perception is reinforced by sci-fi movies like M3Gan, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Westworld, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ex Machina, and many more, where AI bots are evil. They subjugate humans, create wars, and so on. These fantasy movies should not be taken seriously.

However, what if the nightmare becomes true? Find out what ASI is, technology, use cases in this blog.

What are AI Levels

It is essential to understand the various levels of AI and what each level can do. AI is defined at seven levels, from Level 1 to Level 7. Figure 1 illustrates the 7 levels and what AI does at each level.

L1 is the basic level and uses rules and logic circuits to automate some tasks. It is used mainly to reduce manual work. We are now at L3 and L4. Cyborgs and other entities are at Level 7+ and can be termed as ASI.

What are the latest Trends in ASI?

However, ASI will need exponentially advanced processors, hardware, a new environment or operating system, and programming languages. Likely systems in the future are discussed in the next section.

What future chips and Hardware are needed for ASI

Full-blown Artificial superintelligence will require a new generation and class of chips and processors, and advanced quantum computers. While these techs are not yet built, an assessment of future hardware and chips is speculated below.

Remember Skynet, the malevolent ASI from Terminator that took over humanity? Not sure if this will happen. But artificial superintelligence has several critical military use cases that are beyond current human and AI applications. It is expected to transform warfare and defense strategies.

The list is endless, as seen in several movies. However, the costs and resources needed to build these systems will probably exceed the global GDP. So, you can relax for now.

Can ASI take over humanity?

Manuel Alfonseca et al. argue that while ASI will be invaluable, it should be contained and secured so that it does not ‘escape’ and create a catastrophe for the world. One problem is that ASI will have all the knowledge that humans have, and it will figure out a way to crack the containment.

The concept of AI “taking over” humanity as narrated in science fiction is a speculative and controversial topic. Advanced artificial superintelligence can pose significant risks if not developed responsibly. A rogue military dictator or an evil corporation can attempt this exercise.

Such an effort will need massive, massive computing resources, global collaboration, and augmentation of human capabilities. This may not happen. However, one can never predict the irrational actions of deranged leaders.

Summing Up

The blog examined the fascinating concept of Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI). This technology of the future is expected to surpass human intelligence and cognitive skills. The technology is in the early development stage, but research is ongoing.

Several resources, such as hardware and processors, languages, frameworks, and investment, are needed. ASI promises several benefits that go beyond what humans can conceptualize. Certain negative impacts in military applications are also predicted.

Can artificial superintelligence compose original classics of Clapton, Willie, Waylon, Dolly, Emmylou, JP, IM, Motorhead, and other Monsters of Rock? An emphatic No! Once in a lifetime, geniuses created these classics, and ASI will attempt to copy them. I hope this never happens.

QUALITY the most understood, and widely mis-understood, rather mis-construed in Human World, the very purpose for which Businesses exist. Challenges emerge as QUALITY – means the Quest for Ultimate for Stake Holders in the Consumption Value Chain.

In my almost 4 decades of Experience, and as a Mentor, across industries, products and services, could not either get satisfied or satisfy customers, both internal and external, in terms of product or services Quality. I have also found that it is not east to DEFINE QUALITY.

Many concepts have emerged. The race in every such concept is to attract, occupy Human Mind and gain its belief – from Seller to User. In Management parlance, this means – Positioning and/or USP (Unique Selling Proposition). As a Gen-X Professional, have seen transformative shifts in Buying Behavior – mostly induced by Growth in Consumerism alongside proliferation of Global Brands and their look-alikes. Yes, we are spoilt for choices.

STP – Segment, Target & Position is a very rational exercise used by strategic marketers leveraging Demographic Dividend to Position the products according to the so called Buying Preferences. While I agree with STP approach as the best available option, have learnt in a hard-way that this has to be adopted to different Region based Socio-Cultural aspirations. It is just there is no “One Shoes Fit All” strategy!

QUALITY– Over the Years, as a big fan of Six Sigma Philosophy, I have always believed Process Quality is the Most Vital for delivering Consistent Product and/ Or Services Quality. A robust process is sure to eliminate Human induced variances, control of which remains more a Desire than Possibility. Therefore Resources Quality – Infrastructure & People becomes critical, coupled with Commitment to Systems & Procedures, meaning Discipline.

MEASUREMENTS – What, How and When of Measurement forms essential part of Managing Quality. First and foremost is to ensure that Products or Services are as per the desired level or specifications at the Point of Sale by the Seller or Services Provider. Though mostly internal to the Organization, if the deliverables match the specifications – 50% of the Bridge is successfully crossed. Wish to re-iterate – its only 50%!

DEFINING QUALITY–Both as a Buyer & Seller, have always tried to emphasize that Quality is relative – dependent primarily on the Cost and then on the Price. While cost is a fact, Price is yet again relative – Right Price is always a Belief. As a Seller, Quality is completely based on STP, though with risks it carries. Many of us as Sellers believe “Right Product for the Right Price”.

As for the User, Price actually is a Cost and therefore looks at it for the Value it offers. Of course this has evolved over decades – from that of Sellers to Buyers’ Market. USP gave way to UVP (Unique Value Proposition), reinforcing that Quality is Relative, more than ever. Its all about User Perception now – expect maximum Benefit to Cost Ratio. If Cost of Quality is to be reckoned as part of Products or Services Pricing, then Cost is all-inclusive – Ease of Purchase and Availability, End to End, and just not the Price.

In the recent times, wherein Brand Loyalty is Fractional and PLCs (Product Life Cycles) are Diminishing, QUALITY has evolved from Mass to Class to Individualistic, paving way for Super Segmentation and Mass Customization. This simply means Society, that is the Market, is moving up in the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, redefining the Perception towards Quality. 

QUALITY today is no more a Choice – It is given and is the most important part of Mind Games in Selling & Buying.
